The wing thumb screw, combined with the wing mounting block, holds the Van Dusen wing rigger in place. The ergonomic design of the screw is to allow the sculler to remove their rigger assembly from the boat without the need for tools. The thumb screw is different from the set screw, in that the set screws are not designed to be turned by hand and should be used to adjust the position of the wing.
